The Community Legal Information Center (“CLIC”) at Chico State University celebrated its 40th anniversary on April 24, 2010.  The celebration included a tribute to and address by founder, leader, and inspiration Professor Edward J.  Bronson.  Professor Bronson reminded the assembled well-wishers and graduates of the program of the humble beginnings and impressive growth of the program at a fund-raising dinner held at the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company in Chico.

The CLIC currently offers a wide variety of free legal information to students and community members as a student-run, non-profit organization with offices at 25 Main Street in Chico. The CLIC also provides paralegal internship opportunities for students who work directly under the supervision of staff attorneys.

The Humboldt County Bar Association (“HCBA”) met for its December meeting at the Sea Grill Restaurant in Eureka and elected officers for 2010.   Current President Tim Needham was replaced by current Vice President Cat Koshkin.   Humboldt County Public Defender Kevin Robinson was elected Vice President.   The Janssen Law Firm’s Patrik Griego was reelected Treasurer.  David Dibble was elected secretary.

The HCBA is a social organization that organizes continuing legal education classes and assists the underprivileged in our community with time and resources.

If you are a lawyer in the Humboldt County area and interested in joining the HCBA please contact Mr. Griego for dues information.  The HCBA generally meets the first Friday of each month for lunch.

In 2009 Legal Services of Northern California (“LSNC”) celebrated its 53rd year of advocacy on behalf of low income folks in Northern California.   The program encompasses 23 counties, and provides a full range of legal services throughout that area, including from the Regional Office in Eureka, Humboldt County.   In addition to the services provided by the staff at the Eureka Regional Office, that office works with members of the local private Bar to provide, on a case by case basis, private attorney referrals, pro bono, for people meeting the legal services income eligibility requirements.

JANSSEN LAW FIRM SHOWS ITS COMMITMENT TO THE NORTHCOAST COMMUNITY

The Janssen Law Firm decided this year to step up and support Humboldt State University’s radio station KHSU-FM, 90.5.   The Janssen Law Firm will sponsor Morning Edition each day as well as  Bright Moments with the Redwood Jazz Alliance.

KHSU is located in Arcata, California.   KHSU depends upon businesses like the Janssen Law Firm because it is a community sponsored non-commercial public radio station.  It is licensed to,  supported by,  and located on the campus of Humboldt State University in Arcata, California.  KHSU broadcast a diverse mix of programs to a population of about 135,000 people throughout Northwest California and Southwest Oregon.
